About
自己紹介
I’m Alex 凌 (Ryo) Shimotake, currently working as a Product Designer at Trane Technologies with an active freelance design practice supporting individuals and businesses.
I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, studied Design and Japanese at UC Davis, and now live in Sacramento, CA.
Outside of work, I’m a hands-on, crafty person who enjoys repairing small things and building projects from scratch. Hot glue and masking tape are my best friends, and PVA glue if I’m being fancy with it.
As a child of immigrants, I am also interested in language and culture from around the world. I speak English and Japanese, have studied some Mandarin Chinese, and am always eager to pick up new phrases or cultural factoids, though retention may vary.
I also have a rescue dog, モナカ (Monaka), a 4-year-old Shepherd/Husky mix. She’s named after my favorite convenience store dessert, チョコモナカアイス (Choco Monaka Ice Cream), because her coat has the same colors.
