Background
Politics in the U.S. is intimidating, convoluted, and difficult to digest, especially for young potential voters. That’s why we designed a campaign that breaks down that initial barrier to lay the foundation of politics for youth, to discover areas of politics that they resonate with.
The goal was to design a campaign that would catch the attention of politically apathetic or curious youth and to present politics in a more accessible manner to get the youth to the polls.
Logo
Our objective with the logo was to be clever and sleek with a little bit of edge to appeal to younger audiences. We decided it would be fun to style it like a spray paint stencil to give it that sense of youthful edge and is designed for modular use as action icons.
Materials
Our goal with the materials was to draw the attention of youth and get them to the website. There they would find a highly accessible library of resources and get a run-down on how to get involved.
We wanted to package the notion of politics into a “starter pack” that is unbiased and simple enough for someone who is completely new to the political scene.
Reflection
Overall, I would consider the visual cohesion of this project a success. However, when we made our proposal to the panel, some feedback we received was that the imagery used was possibly too adventurous and may detract from clarity. Perhaps if more were to be done on this project, we would reconsider the imagery and work more toward relevant content.
The next step we discussed for this project was to start creating material for course material that would be implemented in schools, such as worksheets and handouts.
